Characteristics Mauro

Mauro is a red wine produced by the Mauro winery in Castilla-León. The Mauro winery is a personal project of Mariano García, a winemaker known for being the technical manager of Vega Sicilia for 30 years, and for creating exceptional red wines in Tudela del Duero (Valladolid).Slowely but surely, the Mauro winery and Mariano García have become prominent figures in the Castilla-León region.

Mauro is made using Tempranillo grapes, with a small percentage of Syrah. The grapes come from the Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo estates, where the soil is light, balanced, with a limestone and calcareous clay texture.

As for its production, after being selected, the grapes are put in seperate tanks depending on their type, estate and zone of production. These tanks carry out a convential vinifaction process. After this, Mauro is aged for 16 months in French oak Barrels from Allier and Nevers, and American oak, which is differentely toasted.

It is due to the streng combined with the balance and elegant character of Mauro that this wine has recieved acclaim from critics vintage after vintage.

Tasting notes Mauro

Mauro 2016 is the combination of the concentration of the Tempranillo variety and a little Syrah, with the marked ageing of the house. A complex and structured red wine where black fruit and spicy elements feature prominently in this intense wine. A modern classic.
Dense but accessible with ripe and diffused tannins. Elegant and voluptuous with its passage on the palate showing a magnificent roundness and fluid character.

Broad and wide attack. Very tasty and meaty mid palate with presence of fruit, fine toasted notes and a touch of sweet spices. Polished tannins. Long, persistent finish. An elegant, round, balanced and lively wine.

Powerful and fresh aromas. Intense notes of red and black fruits accompanied by floral and balsamic notes. Once it opens up, its creamy aromas emerge with hints of milk, a touch of toffee and cocoa.

Although for geographical reasons Bodegas Mauro was excluded from the DO Ribera del Duero, this has not hampered its outstanding position in the national and international panorama with the so-called Wines of the Land of Castilla and Leon. Away from bureaucratic ties, it produces modern wines with a great personality, while respecting the roots, tradition and nature of the terroir, where the oenological dynamism, combined with the commercial impetus, is the best presentation card of reds that are born from limited production and ageing vocation.
