About Luis Pérez Tintilla Corchuelo
Who better to recover the tradition of making high quality red wines in the Jerez area than a professor from the University of Cadiz and former Director of Research at Domecq. Luis Perez Rodriguez’s cultural background is so impressive that he can champion wines made three millennia ago like no one else. In 2002, together with his son Luis Willy Perez Vega, a winemaker, he set up their family project at Finca Vistahermosa, in the heart of the Jerez vineyards, and not only began to produce their ‘signature’ wines, but also developed a wine tourism complex and Vineyard Interpretation Centre, with more than 20 of the most important grape varieties in the world. But there is one grape they get the best from, the Tintilla. A variety native to the province of Cadiz that was almost in danger of extinction, but thanks to the effort and dedication of some winegrowers in the area, it has survived extremely well.
Luis Pérez uses this variety to present a trilogy of wines where the grape shines by itself. His Luis Pérez Tintilla Corchuelo is a single-variety Tintilla de Rota from the Vistahermosa estate in Pago del Corchuelo. There, the vineyard of about 14 hectares enjoys a special microclimate and the influx of sea winds. It also sits on a soil composed of gypsiferous calcareous clay loam, which is unique in the Jerez area and gives it a remarkable mineral character. In the winery, 60% of the grapes are vinified without destemming in open barrels for 30 days. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 6 year old barrels, and finally racked to a tank where it remains for about 2 months before bottling.
Within the VT Cádiz, Luis Pérez Tintilla Corchuelo is part of the trilogy of signature wines that the Pérez family makes with the aim of promoting the native Tintilla de Rota grape. A powerful, silky and tasty wine with all the minerality of the area’s typical albariza soil.
2020 | Luis Pérez Tintilla Corchuelo 2020 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of red and black fruit accompanied by spicy notes. On the palate it is voluminous, unctuous and balanced. A very fruity wine with polished tannins, noticeable acidity and a long, mineral finish. |
