Characteristics La Montesa
Palacios Remondo La Montesa is a red wine from La Rioja produced by Bodegas Palacios Remondo. The technical director, Alvaro Palacios, is known for producing one of the most coveted wines from Spain, L'Ermita, in his Priorat winery.
The grapes come from vineyards planted at an altitude of 550 metres, at the foot of Mount Yerga, in the municipality of Alfaro, in lower Rioja.
The soils are mainly limestone and clay with many stones. The climate is Mediterranean with Atlantic influences, with a large temperature difference between winter and summer, allowing an excellent ripening of the grapes.
Harvesting is done manually, using periods of little sunlight to keep the grapes fresh. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and go through a selection process before maceration at low temperature for 23 days to extract all the aromas.
Palacios Remondo La Montesa is fermented in stainless steel tanks for three weeks. Once, it has passed through French oak barrels (90%) and American oak barrels, (10%) it is aged for 12 months. 20% are new barrels, 30% barrels have contained one wine previously, 25% have contained 2 wines and 25% have contained 3 wines.

La Montesa 2017 is a red wine with citrus and red and black fruit aromas on the nose accompanied by floral and spicy nuances. On the palate it is fresh and fruity, with good structure and balanced acidity. This is a red wine with a pleasant mid palate and an aging potential of over 20 years. It is at its best after three years in the bottle.
La Montesa 2015 offers one of the most fragrant expressions of the Grenache in Rioja Baja. The fruitiness and the delicate stay in used barrels give this wine a fluid and drinkable character. A very good Grenache from a Mediterranean climate.
On the palate it is a pleasant wine and velvety. A lot of fruit with spicy nuances. Very fresh and tempting. Polished tannins with a good acidity. An elegant and persistent finish.

It has a fresh, creamy and silky palate. It shows a very good acidity that provides it with liveliness. Noticeable, light and pleasant tannins, good finish and good persistence. Its aftertaste shows the same aromas noticed in nose.

La Montesa is a tasty and fresh Crianza wine. It has a wide attack and a silky mid palate with floral and creamy sensations. Ripe tannins. Long and slightly bitter finish with no astringency. A nice wine.
