About Ferraton Saint-Joseph La Source
As the name suggests, Ferraton Père & Fils is the result of work passed down from father to son. Since Jean Orëns Ferraton, son of a winegrower, dared to make his own wines in 1946, his legacy has continued to grow though his son Michel. It all started when he took over the company and, with a keen eye, sought the help of prestigious biodynamic winemaker Michel Chapoutier. From then on, in 1998, the winery embarked on the adventure of becoming organic and then biodynamic. The scores these wines are awarded speak for themselves. With more than 100 wines given more than 90 points by Parker and Wine Spectator, these are small productions with excellent results.
Located in the northern Rhône Valley (France), Ferraton currently has 3 hectares of vineyards in Hermitage, 6 hectares in Crozes Hermitage and 4 hectares in the AOC Saint Joseph denomination. From the latter comes Ferraton Saint-Joseph La Source, a red wine made from the Syrah variety. These vines lie on the left bank of the Rhône River, in the foothills of the Massif Central, on granitic soils. And of course, all the work is organic. In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and fermentation takes place in concrete tanks at controlled temperatures for 20 days with pigeage and pumping over. Then the wine partially ages for 12 months in French oak barrels.
As part of the traditional collection, Ferraton Saint-Joseph La Source is a great classic from the Rhône Valley. A balanced, mineral and expressive Saint Joseph at a wonderful price.
2017 | Ferraton Saint-Joseph La Source 2017 is a concentrated red wine with outstanding aromas of lavender flowers, spicy notes and lactic notes. On the palate it is fresh, smooth and mineral. A well-balanced wine with chalky notes and a long, elegant finish. |
