El Jardín de las Iguales

El Jardín de las Iguales is a Garnacha variety red wine made by Frontonio wineries in the Zaragoza area (Aragón).

Bodega Frontonio was set up by Fernando Mora MW, Mario López and Francisco Latasa. Three entrepreneurs who are committed to discovering and reviving the qualities of unique hundred-year-old vines. This project started out in a garage belonging to one of their fathers in Épila, a village in Valdejalón, and resulted in a small production with a quality comparable to a Grand cru.

El Jardín de las Iguales comes from a 1.8-hectare vineyard, located in the Aragón valley of Barrandijos (Calatayud). These are hundred-year-old strains that are planted on slate and quartzite soil and offer very small yields. They use traditional and fully manual agriculture to respect the natural balance of the strain as much as possible and to anticipate the harvest.

In the winery, a cave that is over 240 years old that they bought and restored respecting its original features as much as possible, they partially de-stem the grape to enhance freshness. El Jardín de las Iguales is then fermented at a controlled temperature between 22 and 24ºC. Finally, it is left to age for 12 months in French oak foudres.

El Jardín de las Iguales comes from an effort to revive an exceptional hundred-year-old vineyard to produce a Garnacha with less rusticity and maximum finesse. This wine is a dream come true that is becoming one to watch over the next few years.
