Casa Castillo Monastrell is a red wine from D.O Jumilla produced by the winery Finca Casa Castillo, in Jumilla (Murcia).
Casa Castillo Monastrell is a monovarietal of Monastrell, a local grape from the region. The vines are planted in crusty brown limestone soil in the field El Valle.
The harves is completed in the end of September and the grapes are transported to the winey in large 1,500kg containers.
For production after a careful destemming phase, the grape is fermented with natual yeasts in stainless steel containers with a varying temperature between 24-27ºC.
Casa Castillo Monastrell is aged for 6 months in French and American oak barrels.
In September of 2016, the person who raised the solid foundations of both the vineyard and the winery Casa Castillo, turned 80 years old. With a glass of wine in his hand, he remembers how the first grapes were vatted under his watchful eye 25 years ago. Today, he proudly watches as the continuity of his legacy is reassured by his family. Today, the main goal of Casa Castillo is to produce quality wines with the personality, flavour and character of each plot, which respect for the tradition of the area, and expressing the features of the land and the microclimate, as well as the particularities of the Mediterranean varieties, mainly on the native red variety Monastrell.
