About Bollinger La Grande Année

Small aged oak barrels have always been a crucial part of Bollinger. This house, which has been making champagnes since 1829, uses these vessels that are key to the finesse of their sparkling wines. Today, in the midst of modernised and technified wineries, Bollinger still uses traditional methods, where the bottles are sieved and disgorged by hand and the result is exceptional, with champagnes like Bollinger La Grande Année.

Bollinger La Grande Année starts life as grapes harvested from the 21 crus of north-eastern France, in the A.O.C. Champagne (mostly from Aÿ, Verzenay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry). Only the most exceptional grapes from these plots reach the winery, where they ferment entirely in traditional aged oak barrels. This base wine, which is bottled and sealed with natural cork, rests in chalk crayères for a minimum of three years (almost double the minimum 15 months required by the A.O.C. Champagne). There, under the inspection of manual sieving, the second fermentation takes place and after disgorging, which is also done by hand, Bollinger La Grande Année rests for another 3 months. The wine is in charge, and it is left as long as it needs to stabilise and settle.

2014

Bollinger La Grande Année 2014 is a mature, complex and dry sparkling wine (with less than 8gr/l of sugar). Overall, this is a precise and fine sparkling wine that is very elegant, with exceptional minerality. It begins with golden reflections (typical of the long maturation). The nose is fruity (cherry, lemon, quince, plum, peach) with hints of nuts (hazelnuts, almonds). The palate is very fine, elegant and intense, with a rich acidity. Well balanced. What stands out most is its saline character, which gradually unfolds towards orchard fruits (where citrus fruits stand out). Very fine and integrated bubbles.

2012

Bollinger La Grande Année 2012 is an expressive dry sparkling wine (8 g/L sugar). The nose reveals notes of apricot, almond and hazelnut with a background of honey, cereals and bakery notes. The palate is structured, dense and silky, with a long and refined finish.

2000 Pure elegance. Refined, sensual, delicate, with ripe fruit and citrus, an excellent acidity that provides it with a great freshness, which contrasts with the creaminess in its mid palate. Well-integrated carbonics. Very long and very persistent finish. An elegant and round Champagne. A great pleasure for all senses.

Yellow with golden reflections. Clean and bright with very fine and continuous bubbles which form a good ring on the surface.

Intense, rich and complex aromas. A whole range of aromas, from ripe white fruit with notes of pastry, nuts and butter to citrus notes that provide it with freshness. These notes give way to subtle touches of smoky, spicy,... A large set of scents.
