One of the Weingut Seckinger vineyards lies in a small valley between Mäushöhle and Petershöhle. In this small plot, where red and yellow sandstone abounds, there is hardly any sunlight, so the vines grow under the shade, slowly and unhurriedly reaching maturity. The result is berries with a very high and fierce acidity, which must then be tamed in the winery. Weingut Seckinger Riesling 1 Tal is the wildest wine from this winery in the German Palatinate. Today, the company is run by Jonas, Lukas and Philipp Seckinger, three brothers who decided to take on their family winery. Traditionally, their ancestors had sold grapes to other producers in the area, but fortunately, the Seckinger brothers changed the family’s story when they decided to take the next step and make their own wine. And it’s not just them: with this decision, German wine has advanced and moved up a level.

The first decision of the new Weingut Seckinger company was to convert to using biodynamics. This decision, which could have been risky, was shown to be the only way towards a sustainable future, where both the plant itself and the rest of the ecosystem would be respected. This means that all work is done manually, without using any chemical products and always relying on natural preparations. In the winery, the Weingut Seckinger Riesling 1 Tal production process is a little more complicated than the other wines, mainly due to its acidity. In principle, the solution to this situation involves maceration for three to four days, where the must remains in contact with the skins. After this, Weingut Seckinger Riesling 1 Tal begins to ferment, spontaneously and using native yeasts. After a period of aging, Weingut Seckinger Riesling 1 Tal is bottled unfiltered and unclarified.
