Tio Uco is a red wine produced by Alvar de Dios Hernández in the town of El Pego, D.O. Toro.
After working in several different wineries, Alvar de Dios decided to start his own personal project, demonstrating the value of the old vines owned by his grandfather in the town of El Pego. His clear effort towards an organic-biodynamic cultivation and a classic production, result in fine and tasty wines. Alvar de Dios has managed to position himself amongst the most important winemakers of the area.
Tio Uco is a red wine made with Tinta de Toro and Grenache from three vineyards located at around 750 metres of altitude, planted on mainly sandy soils. The Grenache is over 60 years old and the Tinta de Toro is between 25 and 40 years old.
Harvest is performed by hand. Once the grapes arrive at the winery they are stomped. They are fermented with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. The ageing is carried out in foudres and large barrels for 5 months. This wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Tio Uco 2020 is a juicy red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit accompanied by spiced notes and balsamic hints. On the palate it’s fruity, powerful and enveloping. A medium-bodied wine with a smooth passage, bright acidity and a long, agreeable finish.
