About Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón
Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a red wine produced by the winery Pago de Carraovejas in Peñafiel, D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Pago de Carraovejas is a winery established by José María Ruiz, releasing its first vintage in 1991.
The Carraovejas estate, encompassing over 200 hectares of vineyard, is located on the outskirts of Peñafiel, one of the villages with the richest winemaking tradition in Ribera del Duero, where the soil is loamy-limestone with red clay.
In this region, the climate is oceanic, with low rainfall and severe cold during the long, damp winters, where temperatures can plummet to -10°C. Summers are very short and intensely hot, with temperatures soaring to 40°C, although the nights and mornings are usually cool.
Pago de Carraovejas makes a tireless effort each year to achieve the highest standards of excellence in every aspect of production, thereby establishing itself as one of the finest wineries in Ribera del Duero and throughout Spain.
Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a wine crafted from Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, from a vineyard planted in 2001 on terraces on a hillside at an altitude of 900 metres, on loamy-limestone soils rich in minerals with the presence of calcareous salts.
The harvest is conducted manually in small-volume crates. Once at the winery, the grapes pass through a cold chamber before entering the tanks by gravity. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in small French oak vats, using indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The ageing process takes place in French oak barrels with an extra-fine grain. It is clarified with egg white before being bottled with a natural cork stopper.
