Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a red wine produced by the winery Pago de Carraovejas in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Pago de Carraovejas is a winery founded by José María Ruiz, who launched his first harvest in 1991.
The farm Carraovejas, with over 200 hectares of vineyards, is located on the outskirts of Peñafiel, one of the villages with the longest winegrowing tradition of Ribera del Duero, where we can find loamy-calcareous soils with red clay.
In this area, climate is oceanic with scarce rainfall and a lot of cold in the long and humid winter months, where temperatures can be as low as -10ºC. Summers are very short and very hot, reaching temperatures of up to 40ºC, although mornings and nights are usually cooler.
Pago de Carraovejas makes an untiring effort each year to reach the levels of excellence in each and every one of the production process. This way, the winery has managed to position itself as one of the best wineries of Ribera del Duero and of Spain.
Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a wine made from Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, from a plot planted in 2001 on terraces, on a hillside at 900 metres of altitude with loamy-calcareous soils of great minerality with the presence of calcareous salts.
The grapes are manually harvested and placed in small boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, they go through a cold chamber before they enter the deposits by gravity. The alcoholic and the malolactic fermentations are carried out in small French oak vats, with native yeasts and bacteria. This wine is aged in extra-fine grain French oak barrels. It is clarified with egg whites before it is bottle with a natural cork stopper.
Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón magnum 2016 is a mature, powerful and structured wine. The aromas of ripe black fruit stand out, with lactic, roasted and spicy notes. It has an intense entry in the mouth. Ample and deep, but with an outstanding elegance. Without a doubt, this is one of the best wines from this area.
Pago de Carraovejas is now a consolidated reality in La Ribera del Duero, where tradition is combined with the necessary modernity of its facilities. However, it prefers the more conservative inertia by applying a personal rational philosophy aimed at the production of wines with studied percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, in a region where the Tinto Fino variety seems to be the absolute king. An open mind that is defined with a perfect symbiosis between research and creativity, viticulture and oenology, experience and technology, and innovation and personality.
Alma de Carraovejas came into existence under this philosophy, that of creating unforgettable experiences around wine and which harbors new projects which are today a reality, such as Ossian, which offers us the most elegant face of the Verdejo variety or Viña Meín, where Ribeiro wines, full of Atlantic freshness and also touched by the hand of the great Emilio Rojo, shine in all their splendor.
