Characteristics Matsu El Pícaro
El Pícaro is a young red wine from Toro made with Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) grapes from vines between 50 and 70 years old.
This wine is produced by Bodega Matsu and is a wine that does not interfere with natural processes, guided by biodynamic viticulture methods.
For its preparation, the harvest is done manually during the first half of October and is transported in boxes and small trailers.
Subsequently, fermentation takes place in concrete tanks of 15,000 kg, the temperature does not exceed 24ºC to maintain freshness in the fruit that characterizes this wine.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, once complete, it is neither filtered nor clarified, trying to preserve its natural features.
Finally El Pícaro spends three months in wooden barrels.

Tasting notes Matsu El Pícaro
Matsu El Pícaro 2020 is a pleasant red wine with intense aromas of ripe fruit, liquorice notes and hints of spice. On the palate it’s concentrated, sweet and enveloping. A wine with a coarse entry, but a fresh, refined and subtly mineral passage.
Matsu El Pícaro 2017 is a fruity and linear wine. This vintage is distinguished by a greater concentration due to the lack of rain. A wine to enjoy in its youth thanks to its explosion of fruit.

In Japanese, Matsu means ‘to wait’. A concept that perfectly defines the philosophy of the winery: to wait for the grapes to ripen, to wait for nature to do its work, for the wine to mark the pace.
Using century-old vines, between 80 and 100 years old, planted on very poor soils, cultivated according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, and with the minimum possible intervention, the Matsu winery produces powerful wines, with personality, but providing a softness and elegance unusual in Toro wines.
