Laus Reserva

Tasting notes Laus Reserva 2018
Red wine Reserva. 13 months in French oak barrels.
The bouquet of Laus Reserva 2018 is redolent with the scents of blackberries and ripe plums, interwoven with a hint of dried herbs and a subtle nuance of creamy oak. On the palate, its full-bodied nature is counterbalanced by a succulent texture and flavors of dense black fruit, while a delicate reduction adds layers of complexity without overshadowing its vivacity. This red wine is robust and well-developed, beckoning one to indulge in sip after sip.

About Laus Reserva
Peace, tranquility, harmony, beauty, and serenity.
Embodying these virtues, who could resist the allure of the wines from Laus? Nestled in Barbastro, a charming town in Huesca in the northeast of Spain, the winery was established in 2002 with fervent passion and dedication. As if playing a game of 'eeny, meeny, miny, moe' (for they are all exceptional), we have selected on this occasion Laus Reserva, a single-varietal red made from cabernet sauvignon, aged within the winery’s cellars, under the esteemed D.O. Somontano.
As a rule, the wines from Laus possess a distinctive character. This is primarily due to their elevation, situated between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, which yields unique grapes. But that's not all. The limestone and stony soils, with gypsum presence, also play a significant role. Typically, these soils are of low fertility, yet here, a miracle occurs thanks to the continental Mediterranean climate, characterized by sparse annual rainfall (400 mm). This synergy between soil and climate facilitates the proper maturation of the grapes.
This natural wonder is meticulously preserved within the winery, a modern and minimalist building harmoniously integrated into the landscape, constructed on two levels at the highest point of the plot: the upper floor is dedicated to grape reception, while the lower floor is where the wines are crafted. Laus Reserva undergoes fermentation in this facility within the 46 double tanks and eight isothermal tanks (preceded by a pre-fermentation cold maceration for 48 hours). Key to these processes are the pigeage (gentle punching down of the cap) and the rack and return technique (emptying the tank during fermentation and reintroducing the must). These methods ensure an optimal extraction of color and phenolic compounds.
But the process does not end there. After the initial fermentation, Laus Reserva also undergoes malolactic fermentation, transferring the wine to new French oak barrels where it will mature for 13 months in repose. Voilà! Laus Reserva is then ready to be bottled and savored.

2016 | Laus Reserva 2016 is a richly concentrated red, boasting a deep ruby hue with garnet red nuances. On the nose, it exudes intensity with inherent barrel-derived aromas (toasted wood, smoke, patisserie, spices, shoe polish) that harmonize seamlessly with the notes of ripe fruit (raspberry preserves). On the palate, it possesses a substantial body. One can discern hints of chocolate, leather, spices, and sun-ripened fruits. The finish is enduring. |
