Laus Tinto Joven 2021 is a juicy red wine, with an intense cherry red colour. The nose is fresh and fruity, with aromas of red fruits and wild berries. The palate is soft and silky, very pleasant and glossy, maintaining the fruity character.
Syrah and Merlot are two of the 15 varieties grown in the D.O. Somontano. These two varieties are used to make Laus Tinto Joven, one of the 268 wines produced here, and made by the winery of the same name located in Barbastro, Huesca, in northeastern Spain.
The 100 hectares of vineyards belonging to Bodegas Laus are spread over different parts of this denomination located at the foot of the Pyrenees. The soils here are varied, with limestone and gypsum, a loamy texture, and growing a large number of varieties, some of them French, which were introduced by the Lalanne family at the beginning of the 20th century (they were looking for a vine that would resist the effects of Phylloxera). Since then, these grapes have remained in this area, growing between 350 and 400 metres above sea level, achieving perfect ripeness despite the low fertility of the soils. At Bodegas Laus, the Merlot and Syrah are grown on the 15 hectares that are considered the winery’s ‘natural garden’.
Once the grapes have ripened properly, harvesting begins. From there the clusters are taken to the winery, where each variety ferments separately, at low temperatures, extracting all its fruit and the gentlest tannins. After that, Laus Tinto Joven undergoes malolactic fermentation and is blended, resulting in a young, rich and tasty red wine, with no pretences. After bottling, it is ready to drink. As they say: less is always more, and this is true with Laus Tinto Joven.
