About Forlong Terracota

Terracotta has been crafted by humans for centuries and remains highly relevant today. From purely utilitarian objects to genuine works of art, this material has always been with us. The reason is straightforward: its malleability allows for the desired shapes to be easily achieved during the manufacturing process. From a simple pot to an exquisite sculpture, from a basic brick to a masterpiece, this has always been the case since humans first discovered this material. This same ability to shape nature and adapt it to life inspires those who work the land, seeking in the most noble and traditional materials the perfect vessel to protect what the vineyard offers after months of toil.

From El Puerto de Santa María, under the label of the Vinos de la Tierra de Cádiz, bodega Forlong once again demonstrates its love for the viticultural heritage of its surroundings. Forlong Terracota specifically comes from selected plots where the vines grow on albariza soil, that distinctive white, chalky earth of the region that absorbs winter moisture like a sponge to hydrate the roots in summer. The climate is thoroughly Mediterranean but with a direct Atlantic influence, marked by the westerly winds that cool the nights and balance the sunny days. The chosen variety for this wine is the tintilla de Rota, a historic Andalusian grape known for its freshness and fruity profile. The cultivation philosophy is strictly organic, maintaining respect for biodiversity and conducting a manual harvest to collect the fruit in optimal conditions.

The winemaking process follows an artisanal sequence where the use of wood is completely avoided to prevent interference with the wine's profile. After the manual harvest, the grapes are gently destemmed, separating the berries from the stalks, the green structure of the cluster. The fruit is placed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, where native yeasts transform the sugars in the must into alcohol. During these days, the liquid macerates with the grape skins to extract color and primary aromas. Once this phase and the malolactic fermentation, which provides stability and smoothness, are complete, the wine is transferred to clay amphorae or terracotta vessels. In these containers, the red wine undergoes a 12-month aging and maturation, utilizing the natural porosity of the clay for micro-oxygenation without receiving any external aromatic contribution before its final bottling.
