"Good wines are not always behind the big labels, but they are behind the great winegrowers" under this premise Jules Chauvet, known as the father of natural wines in Beaujolais (France), challenged the big commercial brands in the region. In the 1950s he started a movement calling for a return to the old viticulture and winemaking practices and soon captivated four young local winegrowers who put his advice into practice with the aim of restoring the pride of the Beaujolais Crus. In the case of Jean Foillard, a contemporary of Marcel Lapierre, Jean-Paul Thévenet and Guy Breton, it was clear to him from the moment he took over his father's domain in 1980. An estate of almost 14 hectares located in the Côte du Py, on a famous slope on the outskirts of the town of Villié-Morgon where, from old vines, without the use of chemical oenological products and avoiding any chaptalization and filtration, he achieves the most sincere expression of the terroir in each of his wines.
His red wine Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from old vines of the Gamay variety planted on granite and schist soils. He adopts ancestral methods in its cultivation and, although he doesn’t seek certification, all his vines are treated organically. The grapes are harvested late and, once they’ve been selected by hand in the vineyard, vinification begins with whole bunches. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and lasts approximately 2 to 3 weeks. The wine then ages in oak barrels for about 6-8 months, and is finally bottled unfiltered.
Young but irresistibly exuberant, Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette is a natural red wine, the fruit of a passion for minimally interventionist winemaking. A deep, structured, complex wine which demonstrates the best of the grands crus of Beaujolais.
