El Botijo Blanco is a white wine made by Bodegas Frontonio, in Épila, V.T. Valdejalón.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert.
The aim of Bodegas Frontonio is to dignify the area of Valdejalón and its vineyards, mainly planted with old Grenache, and with a continental-Mediterranean climate. In total, they directly manage around 50 hectares, with organic certification since 2017. Most part of the vineyards are located in the surroundings of Épila. They have different ages, exposures, altitudes and soil types. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with scarce rainfall (200-500 l/m2/year), 300 hours of sun per year, and days with a lot of wind, also called "Cierzo".
Currently, Bodegas Frontonio makes garage wines in the back room of a small winery of bulk wines. They process takes place with minimum intervention, plot by plot. As a result, we can find excellent wines, authentic and with a lot of character.
El Botijo Blanco is a wine made from White Grenache and Maccabeu, from vines over 35 years old located in Épila, planted on deep limestone soils.
Harvest is performed by hand. At the winery, the grapes are cooled until they reach 4ºC for 48 hours. Then, they are destemmed, pressed and left to macerate for 6 hours. After this, the must starts to ferment with selected yeasts, remaining in the deposit with its lees for three months, with pump-overs twice a week.
El Botijo Blanco 2020 is a fresh, elegant and dry wine. On the nose, it is fruity, citric, with notes of white flowers. In the mouth, it is light, with mineral notes that give it intensity and length.
Bodegas Frontonio was created in 2008 by three friends from Aragón, Fernando Mora, aspirant Master of Wine, Mario López, oenologist from Bodegas Borsao, and Francisco Latasa, lawyer and international trade expert. Fernando started making wines in his parents’ garage. Shortly after, his two friends joined him on this fabulous journey.
