About Cuevas De Arom As Ladieras Garnacha
As Ladieras is a red wine produced by the winery Cuevas de Arom in D.O. Calatayud (Aragón).
Cuevas de Arom is the new project of Bodegas Frontonio and Bodegas San Alejandro, vinify old Garnacha vines in a traditional way, recreating the environment of the caves where it was traditionally produced. In this way, they showcase some of the oldest and most unique Garnacha vineyards and achieve wines with a very elegant profile and freshness.
As Ladieras is a wine made from Garnacha grapes from vineyards over 50 years old, at 800-950 meters above sea level, with slate, sandstone, and quartzite soils in the municipalities of Alarba, Atea, and Acered. They practice respectful agriculture, and after manual harvesting, the grapes are cooled for 48 hours. After this time, they are destemmed and fermented in open 4,000-liter vats with native yeasts. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and will remain there for one year. Some of the wine is also aged in concrete tanks and egg-shaped vessels.
Considering that the first wine produced by Fernando Mora (Master of Wine and founder of Bodegas Frontonio) was called Arom (his surname spelled backward), Cuevas de Arom is a clear statement of intent: to achieve one of the best Garnachas in the world.
2015 | As Ladieras is a deep, elegant and fresh wine. On the nose, the aromas of ripe red and black fruit stand out, with slightly spicy, lactic notes. In the mouth, it is very honest, with volume but easy to drink and a fresh and long finish. |
