Albamar Ceibo is a barrel-aged white wine made by Albamar with the Godello variety in the D.O. Valdeorras (Castilla y León).
Albamar is run by Xuxo Alba, a winegrower with a passion to interpret the area surrounding the vineyard. The project began in 2006 when he took over the small family winery in Cambados (Pontevedra) and began making fresh wines with an Atlantic character. He currently produces wines in Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras.
In his quest to make fresh wines, Xuxo Alba found a unique vineyard in A Rúa (Valdeorras), lying about 500 metres above sea level. This is where Albamar Ceibo is born. These are old vines planted in slate soil and influenced by the local Atlantic-continental climate. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and very moderate use of treatments in the vineyard. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the Abamar Ceibo grapes are pressed with their stems and the resulting must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. Then a third of the wine ages in steel with the rest in French oak barrels for 8 months on their own lees.
Albamar Ceibo is the result of the new Albamar project in Valdeorras. This wine comes from a dream and passion to achieve maximum freshness and showcase the character of the terroir. A Godello with the variety’s typical unctuous character but also with a unique freshness.
