Ventisquero Tara Pinot Noir is a natural, wood-aged red wine made by Viña Ventisquero with the Pinot Noir variety in the Huasco Valley, in the Chilean region of Atacama.
Viña Ventisquero is a young winery based in the Maipo Valley but with estates in the Casablanca Valley and Apalta Valley as well. Felipe Tosso, who runs the winery, uses a young but experienced team to produce very personal and characterful wines based on a detailed study of the various soil types. This is a significant work that, in a very short time, has earned him an international reputation.
Ventisquero Tara Pinot Noir comes from vineyards planted in calcareous soils with alluvial stone at the edge of the Huasco River. These vines are characterised by their daily influence from the “camanchaca”, a dense mist from the Pacific that lies 20 km from the Atacama desert and provides the humidity they need to ripen properly. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, the Ventisquero Tara Pinot Noir grapes are first cold macerated for 5-7 days. They are then pressed by foot and the must is naturally fermented with native yeasts and aged in used 228-litre French oak barrels for 24 months. Once the wine is ready, it is bottled without clarification or filtering.
Made in the Atacama desert, Ventisquero Tara Pinot Noir is a wine with a significant saline touch from the sea and the soil. A surprisingly deep, intensely mineral Pinot Noir.
