Valtravieso Crianza is a red wine made by the Valtravieso Bodegas y Viñedos winery in Piñel de Arriba (Valladolid). D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Valtravieso Bodegas y Viñedos has its origin in 1985 when they planted their first vines on the La Revilla estate. It was not until 1996 when they take their first vintage to market.
At present Valtravieso Bodegas y Viñedos owns more than 70 hectares of vineyards which produce 80% of its capacity, and for the rest they buy excellent quality grapes from winegrowers in the area. This allows them to produce wines of excellent quality with a unique personality.
Valtravieso Crianza is a red wine made with Tinto Fino (90%) Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from vineyards located at an altitude of more than 900 meters, on mostly limestone and poorly fertile soils.
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15kg boxes. Once in the cellar the grapes are destemmed and put into containers without squeezing. They go through a cold-soak pre-fermentation maceration (6ºC) for 7 days. The grapes ferment with local yeasts in stainless steel tanks. In these tanks they also undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
