About Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos

The Day of the Dead, recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, is one of the best known festivals in the world. This celebration, which originated in Mexico, is not only for the purposes of remembering loved ones who are no longer with us, but also for paying homage to them with offerings and altars erected in their name. What better way to do that than with Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos?

Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos is a limited edition drink created on the occasion of this Mexican celebration. It is not unusual for the producer Clase Azul, whose aim is to share Mexican culture with the rest of the world, to take advantage of this day to launch one of its most special and exuberant tequilas. It is aged in barrels used for rhum agricole (an artisan rum from the island of Martinique). This beverage, made from the juice of sugar cane, is the final touch to Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos. However, the soul of this drink is found in the blue agave, a plant that is typical of the Jalisco area in western Mexico. In this area, with a dry and semi-arid climate, this plant (very similar to a pineapple) grows on volcanic and mineral soils, at an altitude of 1,500 metres above sea level. The plant’s core, which is harvested just before flowering, is the part we are really interested in, because it is used to extract the sugary must known as mead. This sticky and sugary liquid is what ferments with the selected Blue Class yeast to make what is known as pulque. This liquid, which has already been turned into alcohol, is what will go to the stills, where it will be double distilled to create Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos.

Finally, the true distinguishing touch of Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos comes from the rhum agricola barrels, the well-known artisan rum made on the island of Martinique, whose essence will give Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos its unique and unmistakable touch. The decanter, created by artisans and inspired by traditional Day of the Dead decorations (cempasúchil flowers, perforated paper and sugar skulls), is the perfect finishing touch. What better way to remember and toast our loved ones?
