Suertes del Marqués El Chibirique is a single plot red wine made with the native Listan Negro variety in the D.O. Valle de la Orotava by the Suertes del Marqués winery.
In 2006, Francisco Javier García Núñez and his son set up Suertes del Marqués. A project that aims to revive the area’s winemaking tradition in the most respectful way. A total of 11 hectares of vineyards located in the volcanic La Orotava valley where each plot is analysed, monitored, cultivated and vinified separately to achieve maximum expression.
Suertes del Marqués El Chibirique comes from a small 0.4 hectare vineyard lying at about 400 metres above sea level. The vines are aged between 60 and 80 years old, planted on volcanic soil and trained using the braided cord system. Their agriculture respects the environment and the harvest is completely manual.
To make Suertes del Marqués The Chibirique, fermentation takes place with native yeasts in open plastic tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 500-litre Allier French oak barrels. Finally, it ages for 10 months in the same kind of barrels with capacities of 500 and 228 litres.
Suertes del Marqués El Chibirique is a small production from a small plot that reveals Tenerife’s minerality, intensity and purity.
Suertes del Marqués El Chibirique 2017 is a juicy red wine with aromas of minerals, moist earth and touches of gunpowder. On the palate it is intense, smooth and very silky.
