El Bosque 2022 is a concentrated red wine with prominent aromas of dark fruits, mineral notes, and hints of aromatic herbs like lavender and thyme. On the palate, it is subtle, complex, and very elegant. A medium-bodied wine with a luscious texture, silky tannins, and a long, fresh finish.
About Sierra Cantabria El Bosque
Sierra Cantabria El Bosque is an exquisite red wine produced by the winery Viñedos Sierra Cantabria within the DO La Rioja.
Viñedos Sierra Cantabria is a small winery that is part of Bodega Sierra Cantabria, which also owns other wineries in La Rioja such as Señorío de San Vicente or Dominio de Eguren and the renowned Teso la Monja in the D.O. Toro.
Sierra Cantabria El Bosque is a single-varietal wine made from the Tempranillo grape. The grapes come from Finca El Bosque, a small vineyard of 1.5 hectares with old vines over 40 years of age, featuring clay-limestone soil with gravel and pebbles on the surface.
It is located under the protection of the Sierra Cantabria, benefiting from a blend of Atlantic and Mediterranean climates, with mild winters, gentle summers, and a significant temperature difference between day and night, ideal conditions for the perfect ripening of the grapes.
Sierra Cantabria El Bosque practices completely environmentally friendly agriculture. No chemical fertilizers are used; only organic fertilizers are applied every two years.
The harvest is done manually, and the grapes are transported to the winery in small boxes that keep them in perfect condition. A double selection of the grapes is carried out. The first selection is of the clusters in the vineyard, and the second selection is at the winery on a sorting belt where only the best grapes are chosen. Sierra Cantabria El Bosque is produced in a traditional manner. The process begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration at a temperature of 8°C, lasting for 3 days.
Fermentation takes place in French oak vats at a controlled temperature of 28°C, with two punch-downs of the grapes daily for the first 8 days of fermentation, and one punch-down daily for the remaining 5 days.
The ageing of Sierra Cantabria El Bosque is carried out for 18 months in new Bordeaux barrels made of French and Central European oak, with racking every 4 months. A magnificent wine, complex and highly expressive with a long life ahead.

2017 | The autumn and winter of the new harvest began with lower rainfall and slightly higher temperatures. With the unusually high temperatures that occurred in the month of March, budding was considerably early. As a result of the frost endured on April 28, the earliest buds suffered a considerable loss of production. After the incident, the growth cycle proceeded normally, noted for the two different blooms that occurred due to the frost. The summer continued with high temperatures and little rainfall. It wasn’t until September that the phenolics and phenolic states came into balance. The result of waiting a little longer for the harvest helped achieve a balanced grape without green notes. | |
2011 | Very good structure on the palate. Nice tannins, well-polished by the wine's ageing. Velvety. Powerful but with great balance. Very persistent and fruity aftertaste with notes of minerals and spices. Intense cherry red colour with maroon tones. Rich in nuances. Mineral background with graphite from the vineyard's gravel-rich soils. Fruits, aromatic herbs, balsamic notes. |

2010 | El Bosque 2010 shows powerful, broad, bulk, intense and serious attack. It is long, silky and enwrapping on the palate of elegant, direct and very well-integrated tannins. Very good acidity. Perfect balance and structure. Long and persistent finish. Intense and very lively picota cherry colour, with beetroot tones in the rim and intense violet reflections. Clean and bright, with abundant, dense, tinted tears staining the glass. Intense and complex aromas of very expressive red and black fruit, at its optimum ripeness, juicy, fleshy and tasty, intermixed with fine toasted notes and a wide range of spices. Subtle animal and herbal notes, on a background filled with minerals and balsamic notes. Very interesting. |
