About Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva
French varieties were used for a time because the market demanded this type of grape, and they paid better than the rest. Unfortunately, this was to the detriment of the native wine heritage. But fortunately, more and more wineries are championing local varieties with the aim of producing superb wines that reflect the character and personality of the region. And this is what Luca Formentini has been doing since he took over the Selva Capuzza family winery. A family estate located in San Martino della Battaglia, four kilometres from Lake Garda (Lombardy), it is the only one in the region to produce wines in three different DOC denominations: Lugana, San Martino della Battaglia and Garda Classico.
In the main vineyard, that the winery is named after and that sits at a higher altitude (110-125 metres above sea level), they produce Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva in the DOC Lugana. A white wine made from Trebbiano di Lugana variety vines. These are 35-year-old vines grown on a rich, hilly slope with very permeable clay soil. They use organic agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 20 kg boxes. Once the grapes reach the winery, they are gently pressed and the resulting must is carefully cooled and clarified before alcoholic fermentation begins with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Finally, it is bottled and rests in the winery for a few months before being released for sale.
With the aim of protecting and enhancing the typical characteristics of the vine, Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva is the perfect balance between flavour and freshness. A sure way to set apart and show off the terroir.
2020 | Selva Capuzza Lugana Selva 2020 is a defined white wine with aromas of white fruit and citrus, notes of cedar and hints of minerality. The palate is broad, complex and energetic. A full-bodied wine with marked acidity, a refreshing mid-palate and a long mineral persistence. |
