As the name of the winery itself suggests, Scar of the Sea is a tribute to the beauty and strength of the ocean that leaves its mark on the surrounding vineyards. Owned by Gina and Mikey Giugni, this winery stands as a beacon of innovation and authenticity on the Central Coast of California (USA). Committed to organic viticulture and minimal intervention, their wines perfectly capture the essence of the place, reflecting the freshness of ocean breezes to the warmth of the Californian sun. With ten different vineyards and the respectful work of many local farmers, they showcase a working philosophy that is gaining ground among the new generation of Californian wines.
A perfect example of this project is Scar of the Sea Bassi Vineyard Chardonnay, a white wine whose Chardonnay grapes hail from vines located in San Luis Obispo, California. Vines over 20 years old planted on the coastal slopes of the Ávila Valley and cultivated through sustainable and organic farming practices. In the winery, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in 228 L and 500 L oak barrels. Afterwards, the wine ages on its lees for 17 months in these same vessels. Finally, it is racked into bottles, unclarified and unfiltered, with only a minimal addition of sulphur.
Brimming with energy and precision, Scar of the Sea Bassi Vineyard Chardonnay is a unique snapshot of a true coastal Californian vineyard. A sensory experience that captures the essence of the oceanic landscape and the dedication of those who have cultivated it.
