About Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio Ramato
“We have been entrusted with a land that we have a duty to protect, because it is our future.” The wines made at Ronco Severo, a small winery in the town of Prepotto, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy), are made with this as the focus. The owner, Stefano Novello, has been in close contact with the world of wine since he was a child and, over the years, he has managed to safeguard the area’s winemaking traditions like no one else, completely reviving the family business and establishing himself with the quality of his white wines. Through genuine and simple labels, every year he presents a wide range of products that are representative of the fascinating Friuli Venezia Giulia terroir in very limited quantities but full of originality.
One of these productions is Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio Ramato, an orange wine made from Pinot Grigio grapes grown on vines planted in 1972 at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level, on marl-rich soils, locally called ‘ponca’. Organic agriculture is practiced and the work is meticulous and respectful of the natural cycles of the vine. Being a minimal interventionist, Stefano only works with what nature has already achieved, prioritising the unique features of individual areas. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand in boxes with selection in the vineyard, the wine is made using old-fashioned artisan methods. They are firstly macerated with the skins in 15 hl conical oak barrels for 38 days with no temperature control or any external oenological products. They are then gently pressed with a pneumatic press and finally the wine remains in contact with fine lees for 20 months in Slavonian oak vats. Once the wine is ready, it is bottled without filtering during the waning moon.
Like the young acrobat featured on the original label, Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio Ramato is a playful wine that invites you to enjoy the fascinating Friuli Venezia Giulia terroir like a child.
2019 |
Ronco Severo Pinot Grigio Ramato 2019 is an aromatic orange wine featuring ripe pulp scents, floral acacia hints, and nuances of dried fruit. On the palate, it is dry, velvety, and rich. This youthful wine is fruit-forward, agreeably bitter, and adorned with refined herbal notes. |
