About Puro Rofe Masdache

Puro Rofe Masdache is a barrel-aged white wine made from the Listán Blanca, Malvasía and Vijariego Blanco native varieties in the D.O. Lanzarote (Canary Islands) by the new Puro Rofe project.

 

Under the name Puro Rofe (Pure Ash in English), Rayco Fernandez and his friends have revolutionised the wine industry with some of the most daring wines. Direct products of the volcanic terroirs in Lanzarote and a minimal intervention philosophy, they have already made wines awarded over 92 Parker points in their first 4 years.
 
Puro Rofe Masdache is a coupage made with two of the area’s most traditional varieties: Malvasía and Vijariego Blanco (Diego). These vineyards are owned by Ascensión Robayna, a Canary Islander who is very interested in the ecosystem, and are planted in a traditional way in 3-metre deep holes to ensure the vine is protected from the Saharan winds and dryness. 
 
In the winery, the Puro Rofe Masdache vinification process begins with half the amount pressed and spontaneously fermented and without adding oenological products. The rest is macerated for one day with the destemmed grapes but not pressed. It then ferments in barrel and remains there for 7 months. Finally, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering. 
 
With a saline, intense and spicy profile, Puro Rofe Masdache is a “trocken” made in Lanzarote. A fascinating wine, made in a lunar landscape with volcanic soil.

Puro Rofe Masdache 2020 is a defined white wine with complex aromas of white fruits and saline notes. On the palate it is wild, intense and deep. A wine with crisp acidity, pronounced minerality and a deliciously saline finish.
