Piesdescalzos is a red wine from Vinos de Madrid produced by the Marañones winery. This wine is made using only Albillo grapes.
Taken from the Peña Cruzada plot, the grapes used for Piesdescalzos grow on very granitic soils that have a sandy texture. The vineyard is located 750 metres above sea level and is 50cm deep. The vineyard is owned by the winery, spans less that one hectare of land and is over 50 years old.
The vineyard is cultivated organically. After the harvest has been carried out, the grapes undergo cool pre-ferment maceration for 20 days. Following this, the grapes are pressed pneumatically.
Then, the juice of Piesdescalzos is racked and naturally cleaned for 24 hours before being moved to 700L used medium roasted French Oak Barrels to ferment with its lees. Finally, the wine ages for 12 months before being bottled. This wine is neither stabilised nor filtered, which means that it is possible to find impurities in the wine.
Located just 70 kilometres from Madrid, The Marañones winery is lead by winemaker García Alonso as well as lawyer and owner of the vineyard Fernando Cornejo. Together they form a great team that has managed to turn their company into one of the most renowned in the region, consistently achieving high scores on their wines.
