About Pierre Girardin Bourgogne Chardonnay Éclat de Calcaire
Being able to express a terroir is not easy, and especially not if you are only 21 years old. Pierre-Vincent Girardin, the 13th generation of a family winery in Burgundy, has made an impact with his work, highlighting the individual character of the terroirs and he is doing a great job of it. A talented young man who was born, grew up, played and learned among the vineyards under his father’s guidance, he undoubtedly has wine in his blood and this is clear to see in everything he makes. His first vintage was in 2017, picked from the 4.5 hectares his father set aside for him when he sold his properties, and he immediately became known as the promising new face of the AOC Bourgogne. This success immediately led him to expand his vineyards by getting in touch with local winegrowers who followed his same philosophy and allowed him to express the great variety of terroirs in the region.
One of his wines is Pierre Girardin Bourgogne Chardonnay Éclat de Calcaire, a single-variety Chardonnay white wine made from plots located in the municipalities of Meursault and Volnay. These are old vines planted in limestone soils cultivated using respectful agriculture and with the grapes harvested by hand. In the winery, fermentation takes place with native yeasts and spends 9 months with the lees in barrels and 5 months in stainless steel tanks. The barrels are custom-made and 456 litres in size, with the aim of reducing the influence of new wood and achieving a pure and precise white wine. Finally, it is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
If you want to try a Burgundy with a unique style Pierre Girardin Bourgogne Chardonnay Éclat de Calcaire is the wine for you. One of the leading wines from this new generation winegrower who makes a wide range that is difficult to find from the same producer and already has a presence in several top restaurants.
2021 | Pierre Girardin Bourgogne Chardonnay Éclat de Calcaire 2021 unveils itself with a discreet presence and a velvety touch that gently caresses the palate. Olfactorily, it unfurls a spectrum of scents highlighted by crisp apples and succulent pears, interwoven with delicate hints of citrus. On the palate, its enveloping texture and well-balanced acidity lead to a pristine and invigorating finish. This Chardonnay is a sophisticated exemplar of the varietal, with a character that articulates itself with lucidity and exactitude. |
