About Ormanni Julius Toscana

If there is someone who has done a great deal for Montalcino and Chianti Classico, it is Giulio Gambelli. With his Renault 4, this tireless oenologist travelled across estates and wineries to advise the leading producers in the region. One of those wineries, Ormanni, is one of the most iconic and prestigious in Chianti Classico, whose name honours the original owners and reflects centuries of winemaking tradition. Under Gambelli's guidance, Ormanni became a benchmark of modernity and quality, embracing innovation and the "Super Tuscans" (high-quality Tuscan wines that blend native and international grapes, breaking traditional norms) with unparalleled passion.

In honour of his work, in 1997 the winery launched Ormanni Julius Toscana, a Super Tuscan made from sangiovese, merlot, and syrah varieties grown in the estate's vineyards. The winery practices organic farming, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal ripeness. Afterwards, in the winery, the selected, destemmed, and crushed grapes macerate for approximately 18 days with the skins, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Finally, the wine matures for 16 months in new barrels.

Ormanni Julius Toscana is not just a refined, elegant, and earthy Super Tuscan from the IGP Toscana; it is a tribute to the mastery of Gambelli, the man who knew how to listen to the wine and turn it into art.

 

2021

Ormanni Julius Toscana 2021 is a dark ruby red wine. On the nose, it is characterised by its intense and persistent aromas, with notes of ripe cherry and raspberry. On the palate, it offers a fresh and delicate flavour, with a hint of spice that perfectly balances its acidity. This wine has a concentrated profile that makes it very appealing and easy to enjoy.
