Muros Antigos Escolha is a white wine made by Anselmo Mendes with the Loureiro, Avesso and Albariño varieties in Vinho Verde, in Minho (Portugal).
One of the most prestigious winemakers in Portugal, Anselmo Mendes has an absolute command of the Albariño variety and other local varieties like Loureiro and Avesso. He has an innovative spirit and masterfully combines tradition and technology on his family estate in Monçao, a Portuguese town near Galicia.
Muros Antigos Escolha comes from vineyards that are heavily influenced by the Atlantic climate. These are native vines planted on mainly granitic soils and cultivated using traditional methods. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand in 20 kg boxes.
In the winery, the Muros Antigos Escolha grapes are refrigerated for a time to preserve their organoleptic qualities. They are pressed without destemming and the resulting must is cold-clarified. A long fermentation then begins at a low temperature of 12 to 16ºC in stainless steel tanks and finally, the wine ages for a minimum of three months on lees.
Muros Antigos Escolha is a coupage made with the three leading native varieties from Vinho Verde. A wine that represents the area and stands out for its aromatic intensity and minerality.
