About Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho

Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho is a wood-aged white wine made by Anselmo Mendes with the Albariño variety in Vinho Verde, in the Minho region (Portugal). 
 
Known as a leading specialist of the Albariño variety and one of Portugal’s great winemakers, Anselmo Mendes makes wines on his family estate in Monçao, in the Minho Valley. Combining tradition with innovation, he produces great varietal wines that wonderfully express the land they come from. 
 
Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho comes from vines aged about 14 years old, planted on mainly granite soils. Directly influenced by the Atlantic climate, they are cultivated using traditional practices, production is limited and the grapes are harvested manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
 
In the winery, the Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho grapes firstly macerate and then fermentation begins with the skins. The wine ages in 400-litre French oak barrels for 9 months with regular battonage. 
 
Made through a combination of tradition and innovation, Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho is an exceptional micro-production that stands out for its magnificent energy and minerality.

Anselmo Mendes Curtimenta Alvarinho 2017 is a white wine with intense floral aromas, notes of sweet spices and a mineral background. On the palate it is fresh, enveloping and mineral. A wine with a herbaceous mid-palate that is typical of the variety, fresh acidity and a broad and savoury finish.
