About Munierro de Antídoto

Is it conceivable to encapsulate nearly a century and a half of rural heritage in a single sip? When David Hernando and Bertrand Sourdais ventured into the landscape of Matanza de Soria (Castilla y León, Spain), they were not in search of an ordinary vineyard but rather aimed to revive a legacy seemingly frozen in time. Munierro de Antídoto emerges precisely as an answer to that question: a glimpse into the past that proves the region's oldest vines still have much to narrate.
 
Munierro de Antídoto is a red wine originating from a unique smallholding of merely 1.7 hectares, fragmented into 35 tiny plots, yielding a strictly limited production of bottles for the entire world. At a remarkable altitude of 950 metres, the ancient pre-phylloxera tinto fino vines delve into a soil of pure red clay over a limestone subsoil, reflecting the most intimate character of Soria, where the continental climate defines this exclusive corner of the Ribera del Duero. Ancestral and strictly organic viticulture is practised, culminating in a delicate manual harvest.
 
In the winery, the process advances with meticulous precision where the must patiently melds with the grape skins for a month and a half, absorbing all the finesse the clay bestowed in the vineyard. Subsequently, Munierro de Antídoto seeks the shelter and silence of new Bordeaux barrels, where it undergoes an architecturally precise ageing process for nearly two years. Finally, it is transferred to the bottle to achieve its ultimate roundness, attaining a luminous, noble, and profoundly velvety profile.
