D.O.Ca. Rioja (La Rioja)
Muga Selección Especial Reserva is a great red wine. A classic from D.O. Rioja. It is made by Bodegas Muga in Haro, one of the towns with the highest concentration of wineries in the world.
Muga Selección Especial Reserva is a coupage of Tempranillo (70%), Grenache (20%), Mazuelo (7%) and Graciano (3%). The grapes are grown on estates with mostly clayey-calcerous soils that are situated in the Rioja Alta area, on the foothills of the Obarense mountains. Due to its geography and location it has a particular variety of climates between the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental, which gives the grapes a long and complex ripening.
On their arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo a selection process, discarding the bunches that do not reach the necessary quality standards.
The fermentation takes place in oak deposits with local yeast from their own vineyard. Muga Selección Especial Reserva undergoes a 26 month aging in oak barrels. A barrel so special, that Bodegas Muga is already one of the few wineries left today to continue with their own cooperage in their facilities and continue to make barrels.
After the aging there is a clarification with fresh eggs before it is bottled. Once bottled, Muga Selección Especial Reserva undergoes a fining process of 12 months in the bottle before it is released onto the market.
The warm, friendly, syrupy mouth-feel leaves a sensation of fullness and a persistent aftertaste, characterized by the finesse of its tannins and a complex mineral component.
