About Martín Códax Arousa
The Arousa estuary is one of the largest and most famous in Galicia, and lies on the northwest coast of Spain. It has a significant influence in terms of the economy, environment and culture. So much so that it even has its own legend known as “The Lady of Arousa” which says that on the island of Arousa there lived a beautiful lady who fell in love with a sailor but their love was cut short through another woman’s envy. It is also well known for its viticulture, because the region’s Atlantic climate and granitic soil are perfect for producing exceptional Albariño wines.
Martín Códax, a renowned winery in the Rías Baixas region, in Galicia (Spain), and very famous especially for its Albariño wine, makes Martín Códax Arousa in honour of this place. This white wine is made from a careful selection of plots gently influenced by the Arousa estuary. It takes its name from this geographical area and reflects the local seafaring and fishing tradition. The vines are always cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and temperature control and then they remain on the lees for 18 months before bottling.
The result is Martín Códax Arousa, a fresh, iodized and Atlantic wine that honours the estuary where it was born. A magical place for Albariño whose original salinity is undoubtedly the envy of many.
