Characteristics Laya

Laya is a red wine from the the D.O. Almansa and produced by the Atlaya Winery. The winery is part of the Gil Family Estates group which ownes other known winerys such as the Juan Gil winery.

Laya is a blend of 2 grape varieties, Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrall. The grapes come from the wineries own vineyards that lie at an altitude of 700-1000 metres above sea level, with limestone soils. The climate of the local area has a low level of rainfall.

The vinification process begins with the maceration of the grape before fermentation. The two grape varieties ferment seperately in stainless steel tanks for 15days at a controlled temperature of 25ºC. Following this, Laya then undergoes a short ageing process of 4 months in French Oak barrels.

Laya is a young red wine, yet previous vintages have achieved good marks from international critics. This, coupled with the low price, is what makes it such an attractive wine from a reletively unknown region.

Tasting notes Laya

Laya 2020 is a smooth red wine with elegant aromas of ripe red fruit, floral notes and hints of spice. On the palate it’s pleasant, fresh and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with sweet tannins and an enveloping acidity. The finish is long and somewhat sweet.

Laya 2017 presents harmony between fruitiness, body and acidity. In this vintage, the red fruit is balanced with the more ripe and spicy side. A good, pleasant wine for a great price.
Laya 2016 has found a good balance. The fruitiness and acidity provided by the Red Grenache and a third part of Monastrell make it a juicy wine. The primary aromas of red and black fruit are intense. A good, pleasant wine for a great price.
In the mouth, this Spanish wine is powerful but balanced, unctuous on the palate with a long finish and remarkable persistence. This red wine is excellent value for money.

Dark cherry colour with violet reflections. Very bright.

In the nose, notes of ripe red and black fruit stand out along with floral notes. Toasted and spicy nuances complete the set.
In the mouth, this Spanish wine shows a balance powerness, and an unctuous mid palate with a long and remarkable persistence. A red wine with an excellent value for money.

Bodegas Atalaya is a new project by Gil Family Estates, also in collaboration with the López family from Pilar de la Horadada. The winery is located in D.O.P. Almansa, east of the province of Albacete, between the plateau and the Mediterranean Sea. The first harvest of Bodegas Atalaya took place in 2007. Since then, they have progressed firmly to improve the facilities and do research on the production with the varieties Garnacha Tintorera (Red Grenache) and Monastrell.
