About La Bicicleta Voladora
La Bicicleta Voladora is a red wine produced by Germán R. Blanco in San Adrián, D.O.Ca. Rioja.
The new adventure of Germán R. Blanco now in the Navarrese part of Rioja, which joins the already known Quinta Milú in Ribera del Duero, and Casa Aurora and San Esteban in El Bierzo.
Here, with his friend Javier Colio, he produces this young wine with Tempranillo and Viura, from winegrowers who cultivate vines that are between 20 and 50 years old. They have organic certification, and they are planted on very deep clayey-calcareous soils with a lot of stones on the surface layer.
La Bicicleta Voladora is vinified in a rented winery in San Adrián. Their aim is to produce a fluid wine, vertical and with no frills. They also use Viura, which gives their wines acidity and freshness.
The harvest is carried out manually, selecting the grapes in the vineyard. Once the grapes have been destemmed, they go through a pre-fermentation maceration, with soft pump-overs, for 4 days in cement tanks and Flextank "eggs". These two materials allow the microoxygenation of the wine without adding any external aromas to it. The wine ferments in these two kinds of deposits, and it is left to age for 7 months. It is not filtered, but it does go through a very light clarification. Finally, it is stabilised thanks to the cold in winter.
