About Intramurs de Poblet Negre
Recovering local varieties. This is the first and only purpose of what we know as monastery wines. One example of these is the Intramurs de Poblet Negre, a young aged red wine made at the Abadía de Poblet, in the D.O. Conca de Barberà (Catalonia).
There, north of Tarragona, now lies the Poblet monastery, where the monks of the Cistercian Order, founded in Burgundy in the 11th century, are committed to recovering their production methods and tradition. Codorniú Group has joined in with this project, and the result is clear to see in Intramurs de Poblet Negre. Its birthplace: Abadía de Poblet, the only winery in Catalonia located inside this monastery (declared a World Heritage Site). Where it grows: two selected vineyards, planted on clay-slate soils, lying between 500 and 600 metres above sea level facing east-northwest.
In the winery, Intramurs de Poblet Negre undergoes a pre-fermentation maceration at a low temperature and is then transferred to stainless steel tanks where it ferments at a controlled temperature. Both processes will maintain and enhance the varietal aromas. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo in their purest form.
2018 | Intramurs de Poblet Negre 2018 is a youthful and vibrant red wine. Olfactorily, it is intricate and aromatic, exuding scents of red berries, preserves, and spices. On the palate, it is a richly textured fortified wine, offering delightful fruity sensations. It culminates in an enduring finish that retains its fruity essence. |

2013 | On the palate, it is rich and yields delightful fruity sensations, with a balanced acidity that imparts freshness and a commendable persistence. The finish is prolonged, leaving a pleasing aftertaste of ripe fruits. The wine boasts an intense red hue with purple highlights, and is full-bodied. It presents a clean and luminous appearance. The bouquet is complex and robust, redolent with scents of ripe red fruits, preserves, and spices. |
