Hugel Gentil

Hugel Gentil is an Alsatian white wine that combines the sweet and spicy side of the Gewürztraminer variety, the body of the Pinot Gris grape, the delicacy of the Riesling, the fruity touch of the Muscatel grape and the character and structure of the Sylvaner variety.

The Hugel & Fils winery produces this wine from the grapes obtained from plots located around Riquewihr and southern Colmar in Alsace, France, in whose soils clay and limestone predominates.

Hugel & Fils is a century-old Alsatian winery whose origins date back to the 15th century. They still have oak barrels that are more than a century old. Hugel & Fils was elected a member of the PRIMUM FAMILIAE VINI association, a select group of only 12 family wine companies that belong to the main wine-producing regions in the world.

To produce Hugel Gentil the bunches are picked by hand and transported in small containers so that the fruit arrives intact in the cellar. They are pressed and decanted by gravity for a few hours to leave the must clean. The must then ferments in barrels with temperature control and is filtered naturally in the cold of winter. The wine is bottled in spring using also a special stopper, the DIAM cork, which prevents the possibility of contamination.

Hugel Gentil is the perfect introduction to the wines of the Hugel & Fils winery, who have revived an Alsatian tradition of calling all wine that contain a blend of noble grapes from the region “Gentil”.
