Characteristics Guerila Malvazija
As the saying goes, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. A great example of this is Zmago Petrič who as a young man, left behind his peasant origins and was convinced that he would never farm, however he is now one of Slovenia’s leading winemakers. In his impressive winery called Guerila Wines, which he built in 2005 in the Vipava Valley, he works organically and biodynamically with local varieties and minimal intervention to produce unique and elegant wines that are full of freshness and express the land they come from.
Guerila Malvazija is a clear example of the work Zmago does following the advice of his friend and sommelier Martinom Gruzovinom. This white wine comes from a beautiful amphitheatre-shaped vineyard growing Malvasía using only biological and biodynamic work and taking into account the lunar calendar. Once the grapes have been harvested and selected by hand, they are destemmed and crushed in the winery and macerated for 14 days in a large barrel. The must is then gently pressed and racked into a 20 hl acacia barrel where it also undergoes malolactic conversion. Finally, it is bottled without filtering.
So, no matter how hard we try to escape our roots, they are still there. Guerila Malvazija is a definite example of this. A fresh, fragrant and very mineral white wine that connects with Petrič’s origins.

Tasting notes Guerila Malvazija
Guerila Malvazija 2019 is an aromatic white wine with an intense nose of white flowers and yellow fruits, notes of Mediterranean spices and hints of butter and honey. The palate is harmonious, fresh and elegant. A medium-bodied wine that is intense and smooth at the same time, with a very comforting mineral background.
