About Gerovassiliou Sauvignon Blanc
Thessaloniki, Greece’s second city and the capital of the Macedonia region, is a strategic location where the Eastern and Western worlds meet. The Balkan gateway to the Mediterranean with an enormous and wonderful wine tradition. Something that Vangelis Gerovassiliou has come to appreciate in the family vineyard he runs just 25 km from the town and has been working to revive since 1981 under the name of Ktima Gerovassiliou. This winemaking project is part of the P.G.I. Epanomi, and this is where he grows native and foreign varieties touched by the Aegean Sea breeze and turns them into wines with their own identity.
An example of this unique personality is Gerovassiliou Sauvignon Blanc. A white wine made from Sauvignon Blanc vines that are cultivated using respectful agriculture in several vineyard blocks with sandy soil and some clay substrates, calcareous rocks and plenty of marine fossils. In the winery, the grapes undergo cold skin-contact maceration and fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. There the wine remains on the lees for a few months.
But if there is one thing that makes Gerovassiliou Sauvignon Blanc stand out, it is its clear Mediterranean character. Made from old vines touched by the Aegean Sea breeze, Vangelis has been able to showcase the greatness of a place with this wine.
