Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes is a natural red wine from the AOC Morgon. This Beaujolais is made by the well-respected Georges Descombes with the Gamay variety using a philosophy of minimal intervention.
When Georges Descombes took over the family estate in the hamlet of Vermont, northeast of Villié-Morgon, from his father in 1988, he was inspired mainly by the wines made by master Marcel Lapierre and other great producers who were firmly dedicated to producing natural Beaujolais wines. With a total of 15 hectares spread across Brouilly, Régnié, Morgon, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais and Chiroubles, he produces delicious cuvées that are among the best in Beaujolais.
Although most natural producers in Beaujolais don’t have certified vineyards, Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes does come from officially certified organic vineyards. An artisan cultivation that uses organic and biodynamic practices, with the grapes harvested by hand in whole bunches.
When the grapes reach the winery, they are pressed very slowly in an old vertical press with precise pressure control. Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes ferments with native yeasts in a long semi carbonic maceration at low temperature. The wine then ages in used French oak barrels for 12 months. Finally the wine is clarified and filtered, adding little or no sulphur.
Considered one of the Beaujolais greats, Georges Descombes produces wines with real soul. Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes is proof of this. Pure Beaujolais pleasure!
Georges Descombes Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2018 is a smooth red wine with aromas of blackberries, hints of violets and mineral touches. On the palate it is fine, vigorous and succulent. A wine with bright acidity, firm tannins and a lingering, substantial finish.
