D.O. Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León)
Patience is the art of hoping. And that’s not our idea. This quotation comes from Luc de Clapiers, Marquis de Vauvenargues, a French writer and moralist who philosophised about patience as early as the 18th century.
Fast forward to the 21st century, this virtue is used at Bodegas Torremilanos to make Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara, a single-variety Tempranillo that is aged for 11 months and made in the DO Ribera del Duero, south of Burgos.
Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara starts life on the Torremilanos estate, in east-facing plots lying at an altitude of 800-900 metres. The continental Mediterranean climate, with its harsh wet winters and dry summers, works together with organic and biodynamic cultivation to produce this wine.
However, the real key to Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara lies in knowing how to wait for specific points of ripeness. The first point, at the beginning of September, is when the grapes are fresher; the second point, in October, gives grapes with a higher level of alcohol and sweetness.
In the winery, the Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara production process follows separate paths. The first harvest undergoes a pre-fermentation maceration of 5 days. The second harvest undergoes the same process but for 8 days. After a separate malolactic fermentation, the two wines are blended in February and continue their journey together in butts and concrete vats where they rest for 11 months.
Finally, Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara is bottled naturally, without filtering or refining. No sulphur is added either
Finca Torremilanos El Porrón de Lara is a concentrated, intense and mellow wine, only suitable for those who know how to wait. Why not give it a try?
Finca Torremilanos El Porrón 2018 is a 100% Tempranillo red wine that is medium-bodied, silky and deep, with great fruit expression. It has notes of ripe red fruits, blueberry compote and hints of fresh flowers. The background is mineral, toasted and balsamic. On the palate it is dry, with soft and pleasant tannins.
