Winning an award or contest is a public recognition of skills, talents or achievements. This can be very rewarding and usually leads to a stronger image and an increase in prestige and reputation within the community. The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), the international organisation that deals with the technical and scientific aspects of winegrowing and winemaking, places great emphasis on all that is involved in recognition and is responsible for sponsoring many of the competitions and events that promote the work of people involved in the world of wine. So when we come across a wine that boasts a long list of awards going back to 2012, exclusively in competitions and events recognised by the OIV, there is no other choice but to point it out.

El Grifo Malvasía Lías is a white wine produced by the oldest winery in the Canary Islands (Spain), a project that is located on the island of Lanzarote and has been dealing with fire, wind and rock for more than 250 years to achieve wines with a unique character. Specifically, in this award-winning wine, the malvasia grapes come from four winegrowers in the town of Tinajo who practise heroic viticulture with an exclusive system of cultivation in holes to protect the vine from heat and wind. The grapes are harvested by hand in 18–20 kg boxes and the grapes are pressed without destemming. After a 24-hour static debourbage, the must is fermented with native yeasts and then half of the wine is aged in 500-litre French oak barrels and the other half in stainless steel tanks for 3 months.

Being the most awarded reference of the winery in international competitions, El Grifo Malvasía Lías is the pride of the family. A wine that represents the spirit of a unique land where wine is the fruit of heroic viticulture.
