About Donovan Rall Red
Donovan Rall Red is a red wine coupage of the Syrah, Garnacha Blanca, Cariñena and Cinsault varieties produced by Donovan Rall under the Wine of Origin Swartland denomination in the Coastal Region, South Africa.
The clusters used to make the Donovan Rall Red wine come from vineyards where shale and sand soils predominate.
The grapes are harvested earlier than usual for the area and taken to the winery where they are destemmed and fermented separately with their native yeasts. The cap is gently plunged twice a day during the first week and then less often just to keep the cap moist. The cap is a layer of grape skins that appears at the top of the liquid as it ferments.
When the wine has reached the desired extraction point, it is drained and pressed manually to then age for 22 months in French oak barrels. It is bottled without filtering or clarifying.
Donovan Rall is a young winemaker who works closely with Swartland producers to obtain fruit of extraordinary quality, maturity and balance. Rall is very interested in the Cinsault grape, which he considers a good variety for a winemaker specialising in white wines because his goal is to make smooth red wines that are made well and have a strong and unique personality.

2017 | Donovan Rall Red 2017 is a red wine that presents fruity aromas reminiscent of blueberries and blackcurrants on the nose. On the palate it is concentrated, lively and fresh, with a pleasant texture and juicy fruit, with spicy nuances and a mineral finish. A flavoursome wine with great potential. |
