About Domus Aurea
Domus Aurea 2014 is a wood-aged red wine made by Clos Quebrada de Macul in the Maipo Valley in Chile with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties.
After years of selling their grapes to the best wineries in the country, Isabelle and Ricardo Peña decided to set up their own winery, Clos Quebrada de Macul. It wasn’t long before they started making some exceptional wines that quickly caught the attention great international experts, catapulting the Maipo Valley to a position among the most prestigious terroirs in Chile.
Domus Aurea comes from vineyards planted on slopes around the city of Santiago de Chile in the Maipo Valley, in the Central Valley wine region. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture that preserves the natural balance of the terroir and the harvest is carried out at the optimum point of ripeness.
The best grapes are selected in the winery to make Domus Aurea and then the winemaking process begins. After maceration and fermentation, the wine is aged in medium toasted French oak barrels, 60% of which are new and 40% are on their second and third use. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months before being bottled to age for another 18 months.
One of this winery’s star wines, Domus Aurea is one of the Maipo Valley’s best classics. A high-scoring coupage of red varieties that is loved by some great international experts.
