About Domaine Lafage La Retro

A wine that takes you to back the past. A wine full of memories. A wine like the ones made in the old days. These statements are the perfect way to present Domaine Lafage La Retro, a light, juicy, low alcohol red wine, made as it was made in the old days in the south of France, in the Roussillon area. This very traditional profile has been revived by Jean-Marc Lafage, the current owner of Domaine Lafage and the latest generation of the family, who has rescued this classic profile that his father and grandfather made at home.

Jean-Marc Lafage recalls how in the past, the family sold the best grapes from the estate to the local cooperative (where the region’s traditional vin doux was made). What was left on the vines, the bunches that hadn’t ripened properly or were of lesser quality, were picked and collected by the family, who used them for their own consumption. The result was light, moderate and fruity wines, intended for everyday use.

Now, several years later, Jean-Marc Lafage (accompanied by his wife) is once again committed to these wines, where the winemaking is based on light crushing, short macerations and very little extraction.

A tribute to their ancestors that you will want to go back for after your first glass.

2024

Domaine Lafage La Retro 2024 is a captivating red wine. Its sparkling purple hue invites one to delve into its aromatic complexity. It initially surprises with intense aromas of blueberries and blackberries, followed by sweet notes of chocolate and vanilla, all enhanced by a hint of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it unfolds as a decidedly dry wine with a silky texture, exhibiting a notable acidity that renders it fresh and vibrant. The aftertaste highlights memories of blackcurrant and the distinctive mineral notes imparted by the slate soils of the Roussillon region. Domaine Lafage La Retro 2024 is recommended for its balance between intense fruity aromas and refreshing acidity, making it excellent for those seeking youthful and versatile wines.

Domaine Lafage La Retro 2022 is a juicy, light ruby red wine with bright reflections. The nose is fruity with very subtle spicy notes. The palate is soft and fresh, light and well balanced.
