Expressing your full potential is not about achieving perfection, but about doing the best you can and making the most of the skills and resources available to you. And that is exactly what Victor and Gaston Huet did when they planted 30 hectares of Chenin in three wonderful plots located in the famous AOC Vouvay: Haut-Lieu, Mont and Clos du Bourg. It is on this estate that a father and son team knew how to express the full potential of these Loire Valley Grand Crus and who, with rigour, patience and dedication, have managed to make Domaine Huet a leading estate in the region, a standard bearer of Chenin Blanc quality and one of the forerunners of biodynamic cultivation in France.
One of their main wines is Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec, a white wine made from Chenin Blanc grapes from 25-year-old vines planted on green clay soils with flint, locally called perruche. They are cultivated following biodynamic principles and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. The selected clusters are gently pressed and the resulting must is fermented with native yeasts. Then the wine ages, some in used barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks for 12 months.
As a result of all this work, Domaine Huet Vouvray Le Mont Sec gives us the full potential of a Grand Cru. A splendid balance between fruity, acidic freshness and crisp minerality. Probably the most elegant wine offered by Domaine Huet.
