When we speak of Familia Torres, it is easy to think of fine wines that have brought the name of Penedès to the world. However, their legacy extends far beyond that. It is a tale of commitment to the land, respect for tradition, and a forward-looking vision that seeks a balance between innovation and heritage. For decades, the Torres family has been dedicated to reviving ancestral grape varieties, those nearly forgotten grapes that narrate the history of Catalan viticulture and are now experiencing a resurgence stronger than ever.
Among them, forcada holds a special place. It is the sole white variety, among the more than fifty recovered by the winery, that has demonstrated exceptional potential for crafting outstanding wines and withstanding the effects of climate change. Its slow maturation and pronounced acidity make it an oenological treasure. Thus, since 2018, when it was authorised by the DO Penedès, it has played a pivotal role in this mission to reclaim the past to shape the future.
Born from this commitment is Clos Ancestral Blanco, a 100% organic wine that encapsulates the essence of Penedès. A blend of forcada and xarel·lo, two varieties that speak of tradition and authenticity. On one hand, the forcada imparts freshness and structure, while on the other, the xarel·lo enhances its Mediterranean character with depth and complexity.
The production of Clos Ancestral Blanco adheres to a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing each variety to express its utmost authenticity. Fermentation and ageing on the lees for three months in stainless steel tanks enhance its vibrant and elegant character.
As a result, Clos Ancestral Blanco bridges the past and the future. The revival of the forcada reminds us that true progress lies not in forgetting our traditions, but in reinventing them to continue writing the history of a region.
