In 1998, a pair of storks nested for the first time in the gardens of Castillo de Perelada. Today, several decades later, this colony has flourished to 30 pairs and nearly 50 chicks. This remarkable growth is attributed to the initiative undertaken between the winery and the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park, which launched a reintroduction programme for these birds that had historically been scarce in Girona. As a tribute to this programme, Perelada Cigonyes Blanco was born, a blend of macabeo and sauvignon blanc that you simply must taste.
The variety of soils within the DO Ampordà breathes life into this white wine, which is full of nuances thanks to the sandy-textured and low organic matter soils where slate, granite, and clay abound. However, the truly striking feature of this terroir is the Tramontana, a wind arriving from the north that ensures the vineyards' good health. Additionally, it is noteworthy that the winters are mild and the summers are hot, with very high temperatures, somewhat mitigated by the sea breeze from the coast.
Perelada Cigonyes Blanco is harvested manually and brought to the winery where Perelada Cigonyes Blanco is carefully pressed, using only the free-run juice for fermentation. Specifically, this juice, obtained from the first pressings, possesses superior quality, ensuring better aromatic and taste results once fermentation is complete.
Perelada Cigonyes Blanco is bottled. Now it's up to you to discover how the story of the storks and the strength of DO Empordà translate into every sip. Open it, let yourself be carried away, and soar with the flavour of Perelada Cigonyes Blanco.
